A two-hour drive away, the small town<a href=\"http:\/\/leavenworth.org\/\">\u00a0<\/a>is a popular destination year round for its proximity to a ski resort, wineries, and golf courses. A former gold rush town, Leavenworth decided to reinvent itself in the 1960s by emulating a Bavarian village, complete with German festivals and architecture.<\/p>\n<p>On our last day in town we booked a snowshoeing tour around a ski park adjacent to the Wenatchee river.
