We wanted to visit the vast lava fields created during a major eruption some 7,000 years ago. We arrived before the visitor&#8217;s center was open, so we drove a little farther to visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/highdesertmuseum.org\/\">Museum of the High Desert<\/a> first.
