We picked up our rental car on a Wednesday morning and headed north towards Hanging Rock, a famous park in the Macedon Ranges area.
The rocks are the remains of a former volcano that died over six million years ago. The area is popular because of a novel and later movie named Picnic at Hanging Rock, both of which tell the story of the 1900 mysterious disappearance of a group of visiting young women. The story is fiction, but the novel and movie were framed as true. The incidents were an urban legend throughout Australia for years after publication.
After a brief hike up and down the small hill, we ducked out of the rains and drove to a wine bar for lunch.
