For our 25th anniversary trip we spent two weeks visiting the former Yugoslavian countries of Slovenia and Montenegro. We started in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana (Loo-blee-ah-nah). A former Roman settlement that was also part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, this small, pretty city quickly became one of our favorite places in Europe to have visited.
We stayed in the old town area along the busy riverbanks. Just outside our hotel doors we had access to dozens of outdoor restaurants and a lively cafe and bar scene that rivals nearly anywhere else we’ve been. We also ate a lot of good ice cream. If you’re looking for some place new in Europe to tour, don’t overlook Slovenia and Ljubljana.
