Malta is only 80 miles south of Sicily. Once we learned that there are ferries that shuttle back and forth between the two islands, we made plans for a day trip. The ferry docks in the small town of Pozzallo, but the highways of Sicily made for a short drive to the eastern city of Siracusa. We spent most of the day there before visiting the hilltop town of Noto.

We then had a beachfront drink and snack in Pozzallo before boarding a return ferry just after sunset. It was our first time in Sicily, and we enjoyed it enough to put it on our list for a future visit.
