For the last day of our trip we took the train from Luxembourg back into Germany to visit Trier. Although a small town of only 110,000 people, Trier appeared in several articles we read about the best Christmas markets. There were two large ones in adjacent squares that we toured on the cold day.

Trier also stood out to us for its cathedral. While the one in Cologne is more famous, we preferred the one in Trier for its distinctive exterior and impressive interior.
