In mid-October we took the Eurostar to the capital of Europe (and Belgium), Brussels. We loved the chocolate and enjoyed the city very much.
We arrived into town on Friday night and began the search for a restaurant. After travelling through Spain we figured it would be easy to find some dinner after 9pm. But near our hotel we couldn’t find anything that was open. We finally found an Italian-Scandinavian place that was open. Like you, we found the description a little odd but we were hungry and they were open. Dinner was excellent, and when we asked for the check Angelo the Italian waiter took us into the bar and sat us down with a pair of complimentary glasses of Amaretto. We sat and listened to a small international sing along with a Portuguese guitarist, a Scandinavian pianist (coowner of the restaurant), a very drunk Scot, three quiet Englishmen, one Irish woman, a couple of Germans, a trio of Italians, and one older woman who did a lot of singing but we couldn’t figure out where she was from. It was great fun. We had to bow out and go to bed at about 2:30 am. It was a great way to start the trip.
We walked the city for three days and spent time at the museum of chocolate. Admittedly it wasn’t a large museum, but we liked the part with the free samples. We also paid a visit to a travelling art/science exhibit called Koerperwelten. Kim didn’t find it that interesting, but she was a sport and went anyway.
