South Island road trip part 2

We left Nelson to start our fourth day on the road and headed south to Nelson Lakes National Park. We stopped at Lake Rotoiti for a short hike and then headed south down the western coast to Greymouth.

The next morning we ventured out to the pancake rocks and blowholes at Punakaiki at high tide to catch the natural water show. We then drove inland to Arthur’s Pass, but we did spend a few hours enjoying the views from the road on the coastal drive.

We spent our last night at Arthur’s Chalet and enjoyed a surprisingly tasty dinner considering the rustic surroundings. The next morning we hiked two short trails around the pass and then drove back into Christchurch for a late lunch. We then returned to the airport and flew on to Sydney.
