Lantau Island

As soon as Kim found out there was a giant Buddha on the outskirts of Hong Kong we made plans to visit, as oversize religious statues are a staple of world travel. The Buddha is on a hill on formerly remote Lantau Island west of central Hong Kong. The island is now home to the city’s large airport and is connected via rail and road. There’s also a tram from the metro station to the shopping center that’s a short walk from the Buddha and and the Po Lin temple.

We rode the tram out and walked back in. Here’s what we saw on our day on Lantau Island.
