Lava walk

For our last morning in Bend we drove south to the Newberry National Volcanic Monument. We wanted to visit the vast lava fields created during a major eruption some 7,000 years ago. We arrived before the visitor’s center was open, so we drove a little farther to visit the Museum of the High Desert first. After a few hours in the museum we returned to the lava fields and walked the short hike named The Trail of the Molten Land.
